New £170,000 gym officially opened at Arena Leisure Centre
The Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr John Winterton has officially opened the new gym at Arena Leisure Centre in Camberley.
Phil Burgess, member of the Olympic silver medal-winning Team GB rugby sevens squad, also attended the launch on Saturday 15 October.
The new gym, which features bespoke equipment for functional training, a synthetic turf sprint track and a CardioWall as part of the £170,000 refurbishment, offers members cutting-edge fitness facilities at an affordable cost.
Cllr Winterton said: “I am pleased to officially open the new gym at the Arena Leisure Centre in Camberley. It’s a fantastic new facility which will help the people of Surrey Heath to stay fit and healthy using the latest equipment and technology.”
Arena Leisure Centre is operated by Places for People Leisure in partnership with Surrey Heath Borough Council.
Jonny Gosnell, General Manager of Arena Leisure Centre, said: “We are extremely proud of our new fitness facility at the Arena.
“Our main aims were to bring the fun factor back into health and fitness, and to ensure we remain accessible to all users.
“We feel we have achieved this, and now more than ever we can encourage more people to lead a healthy lifestyle.”
Mr Gosnell added: “Having new, exciting equipment available we can accommodate for absolute beginners in the gym right up to highly-experienced athletes.
“We have made changes based on feedback from members – including more concept rowers, extending the free weights area, additional benches, and more focus on functional training.
“This investment is part of a quarter of a million pounds that PfP Leisure has recently funded into improvements into the Arena.
“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Surrey Heath Borough Council.”
Surrey Heath Business Portfolio Holder Cllr Craig Fennell said: “We welcome this investment in the new gym at the Arena, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to offering top class leisure facilities in Surrey Heath – I would encourage as many people as possible to visit and try the equipment out.”
