Some schools across Surrey and Hampshire are closed this morning – as drivers faced hazardous conditions on the roads.

It comes after another night of sub-zero temperatures.

Some major roads in our area were covered with snow and ice – and motorists reporting that they appeared to be untreated at the start of the rush hour.

But Surrey Council said the first gritters went out at 4am this morning.

A spokesperson has insisted they were out earlier, but that it takes up to three hours to cover the whole county.
