Cheylesmore Park playground in Heatherside, Camberley, has been officially opened after a £40,000 transformation.

The play area has been refurbished to include two multi-play pieces for toddlers and juniors, a trampoline and zip slide together with new swings, a see-saw, play panels and rota roka.

Heatherside Ward Councillors Cllr Jonathan Lytle, Cllr Ian Cullen and Cllr Paul Ilnicki joined local families and representatives of Heatherside Ward Residents Association at the official opening on Friday 18 May.

Cllr Cullen said: “The playground looks terrific, and will hopefully be greatly appreciated by all Cheylesmore residents. Thanks and well done to all concerned.”

Cllr Lytle said: “This provides Cheylesmore and the wider Heatherside family community with a wonderful fun, friendly and safe place for children to meet and enjoy outdoor play facilities together. My children are already enjoying it enormously!”

Cllr Ilnicki added: “The refurbished play area looks excellent, and I look forward to its good use by local families.

“This has been achieved after considerable work, including full consultations and regular dialogue with the local residents, old and young alike, and the Heatherside Ward Residents Association.

“I’d like to thank all those who helped, including our Leisure and Greenspace teams, and the residents themselves.

“We all look forward to this providing many happy hours of use.”

The £40,000 investment was funded by Planning Infrastructure Contributions, and the final scheme was agreed after consultation with children and parents from the local community.

Last year the Council agreed a Borough-wide playground improvement scheme that will see more areas of Surrey Heath benefit from improved play facilities.

The play area improvement scheme is worth over £650,000, with the improvements due to be implemented over three years.

Surrey Heath Business Portfolio Holder Cllr Craig Fennell said: “We are committed to keeping the play facilities around Surrey Heath safe, modern and most importantly fun, to help keep youngsters active.

“The play area improvement scheme is at the heart of this, and is continuing across the Borough.”
