The Surrey Game and Country Fair is a fantastic opportunity for families to experience rural life in Surrey.
The Fair brings together all manner of rural activities including clay shooting, gun dogs, falconry, terrier racing, hounds, sheep dogs, vintage tractors, a food hall and food theatre, tractor and horse ploughing and spectacular main ring entertainment. Something for every member of the family.
The Fair is held in the stunning setting of Loseley Park. Just minutes from Guildford and the A3, the Fair welcomes up to 10,000 visitors each year.
The 2017 Fair was a great success and we are looking forward to the 2018 event. Here are a few of the highlights that visitors enjoyed in 2017.
The Bob Hogg Lamb National – “The funniest thing I have ever seen!”. Herdwick sheep in their individual colours and wobbling jockeys tackled their own Grand National course. With names like Sheargar and Red Ram visitors loved this hilarious family extravaganza.
Hownhall Shooting once again provided a whole day of ‘have-a-go’ and competitive shooting. Adults and children experienced the thrill of muzzle loading, the sportsman stand, the pigeon stand and the air rifle stand. Established shots entered the 50 bird sporting layout with targets to test the most seasoned shooter. There were awards for ladies, gentlemen, junior and overall High Gun.
Warrenby Gun Dogs returned to Loseley with their gundog demonstration team. Visitors saw how the experts train their dogs and handlers of all ages and abilities. Loved by all dog owners!
Huxley’s Falconry team were back with buzzards, owls and falcons. Visitors saw how these beautiful birds go about hunting in the wild. Fantastic!
The Food Hall was even bigger this year and incorporated the Food Theatre with demonstrations and education. Visitors sampled a whole range of food and drinks grown, reared, brewed, caught or baked in Surrey.
Shopping and rural crafts galore – with an opportunity for some early Christmas shopping, visitors shopped until they almost dropped. From unique jewellery to picnic hampers to hand carved walking sticks, there was something for everyone.
The Family dog show returned, with classes for every size and type of dog. Also back by popular demand was the dog agility.
The Surrey County Ploughing Match was once again held at Eashing Farm in Godalming, just a short drive from Loseley Park. An unmissable rural spectacle.
