Following on from the White Elephant Film Festival and also part of the year-long Camberley International Festival, we are delighted to announce the first ever Camberley Comedy Festival.

Organised by Camberley Theatre and taking place in a beautiful 40 capacity tipi, year one aims to start small and grow each year.

The tipi will be in Camberley Park which is just behind the theatre.

From 10am until 2:30pm there will be two, free to attend, children’s comedy workshops. During the classes, children get to have a go at writing and performing, learning how to express themselves on stage, find the funny in a story, and feel comfortable and confident in front of an audience. The workshop has a mix of improv games, group work and solo activities, so everyone will get a chance to shine. There will then be a mini showcase where the ticket holders can come and see the children in action!

Later in the afternoon, the tipi will play host to two brilliant up-coming comedians.

At 3pm, Mark Simmons will perform. Mark is an exceptional one-liner comedian. It won him a place in Dave’s prestigious Best Joke of The Fringe in Edinburgh 2017. His solo show at the festival, One-Linerer was also a huge hit, with sell out shows every day and was nominated Best Show by the Amused Moose Comedy Award Fringe Show 2017. He then continued this success with his follow-up show, One-Linererer, which was also a sell out!

Mark is constantly on the rise and since being in the finals of several noteworthy competitions, such as Leicester Mercury Comedian of The Year, So You Think You’re Funny and the NATY Award, he has been in high demand for the top UK comedy clubs, such as Glee, Manford’s Comedy Club, Baby Blue and Just The Tonic, headlining the majority of them. Also, he has been recently supporting Seann Walsh, Rob Beckett and Rob Brydon on their national tours, as well as one off shows supporting Michael McIntyre and Jack Dee.

“Absolutely hilarious.” The Scotsman ★★★★

At 4pm anil Desai, star of ITV’s ‘Imitation Game’ will take his turn in the tipi. Anil Desai’s unique brand of feel good, energetic, stand-up comedy is based on his real-life stories, experiences and observations – at times dry, occasionally sarcastic, but with genuine honesty and an optimistic wisdom, from his love of movies, and film-stars to his everyday life, global travels, relationships and the ever-changing state of the world and its cultures.

His sets are fused with a who’s who of amazing impressions, international accents and every day characters as he twists, turns and transforms himself into our favourite movie stars & celebrities with dynamic speed and lovable charm, often losing himself in the mix whilst creating hilariously entertaining results and being one of the most adaptable comics in the industry.

“It’s not just clever, but utterly hilarious…one to watch” Edinburgh Evening News

There will be a pop up bar provided by multi award winning Camberley bar, The Cabin, providing drinks and snacks plus bales of hay to sit on outside the tipi. The tipi will contain rustic furniture and be beautifully lit with fairly lights. The festival will be electricity free and completely eco-friendly.
