Surrey Heath Borough Council’s popular Christmas tree recycling scheme collected more than 1,000 real Christmas trees this year.

The Council-run scheme, which offered 15 drop off sites across the Borough from 5-19 January, collected 1,180 trees – an increase of almost 50% compared with the previous year.

This excellent result is great news for parks in Surrey Heath, as the collected trees have been turned into wood chippings and used to replenish the paths in Green Flag Award-winning Frimley Lodge Park.

Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Places and Strategy Cllr Craig Fennell said: “Now in its third year, the Christmas tree recycling scheme goes from strength to strength.

“Thanks to everyone who took part in the scheme by dropping off their tree – it has multiple benefits, for residents, our parks and the environment in general.

“Park users should see the benefits all year round through improved paths.”

There are plans to run the scheme again in January 2020.
